Utah ABD’deki Mormonların en çok bulunduğu eyalet ve başkentleri de Salt Lake City. Temple onların adeta Kabe’si gibi. Türkçemizde tapınak, mabet, ibadethane anlamlarına gelen “temple” sözcüğü, burada genel olarak Mormonların ibadet yaptığı kilise olarak kullanılıyor. Özel olarak ise, Salt Lake City merkezinde(Downtown) bulunan ünlü kiliselerine “Salt Lake Temple” diyorlar. Benzer nitelikteki 130’dan fazla kilisenin en büyüğü ve meşhuru olan bu tapınak, Little Cottonwood Canyon vadisinden getirilen taşlarla tam 40 yılda inşa edilmiş ve 1893’de hizmete girmiş.

Bugün Ayşen’le işte bu mabedin adı verilen Temple caddesinde bir yürüyüş yaptık; yol boyu ilginç mimari ve kutsal yapıları fotoğrafladık. Çarşı dükkan alışveriş merkezi gibi yerlere takılmadık, sadece Temple bölgesine girdik ve sonra caddede devam  ederek bu defa basketçilerin mabedi olan Energy Solutions Arena’da noktayı koyduk.

Yılbaşı civarında Temple bölgesini gezdiğimizde yanıma kameramı almadığım için fotoğraf çekememiştim. O sıralarda heryer süslenmiş ve geceleri ağaçlar binalar ışıklandırılmıştı. İlk fırsatta ve bu defa kameralı olarak buralara gelmeyi istediysem de, ancak bugün fırsatını bulabildik. Maya’nın periyodik doktor kontroluna gidilirken, bizi de downtown yakınlarındaki Temple Caddesi’nin 700E ile kesiştiği kavşakta bıraktılar. Buradan itibaren planladığımız yürüyüşü yapmaya başladık.

Tam bu noktada Salt Lake Temple ile ilgili olarak ilginç bulacağınızı düşündüğüm bir başka bilgiyi paylaşmak istiyorum. Salt Lake City şehrinin sokakları Doğu-Batı ve Kuzey-Güney yönlerinde birbirlerini dik kesecek şekilde kurulurken  sokak isimleri Temple merkez olacak şekilde sıralanmış. Örneğin Tapınağın güneyindeki ilk Temple caddesinden sonraki sokak 100S, ikincisi 200S ve böylece yedincisi de 700S olmaktadır. Bu şekilde 4 yöne doğru tüm sokaklar numaralandırıldığından şehirde aradığınız bir adresi kolayca bulabiliyor veya bulunduğunuz noktayı hemen anlıyorsunuz.

Yürüyüşümüz boyunca ilginç bulduğumuz yapıların çeşitli fotoğraflarını çektim.  Amacım, Salt Lake City downtown bölgesindeki bu 2.5 kilometre karelik kısmının görüntülerini sizlerle paylaşarak şehir merkezi hakkında bir fikir oluşturmak. Belki bir başka yürüyüşte diğer yerlerin manzaralarını yakalarız.

Temple caddesinde bizim gördüğümüz yapıların sadece dışarıdan fotoğraflarını çektim ve isimlerini aşağıdaki albümde yazdım. Bunlar hakkında daha fazla meraklananlar çeşitli kaynaklardan bilgi bulabilirler. Doğal olarak yazımın konusu olan Salt Lake Temple ve çevresinde daha çok fotoğraf çektim.

Yürüyüşümüzün son noktasındaki Energy Solutions Arena önünde Cem Masha ve Maya ile buluştuk, birlikte Utah’da birçok defa en iyi Yunan Lokantası seçilmiş Aristo’s Greek Restaurand and Cafe’ye gittik.

SALT LAKE TEMPLE TOUR – Feb.15, 2013

Utah is a state where most abundant Mormons and its capitol is Salt Lake City. Temple is like their Kabe. The word of “Temple” is being used here generally as a church where Mormons worship in it, like means of “tapınak”, “mabet”, “ibadethane” in Turhish. In particular, the “Salt Lake Temple” is their famous church in downtown Salt Lake City. This temple is the largest and most famous of more than 130 similar churches and was built in 40 years with stones brought from Little Cottonwood Valley and started service in 1893.

We took a walk with Ayşen on the Temple Street, named after this temple today; We took pictures of interesting architecture and sacred buildings along the street. We were not hang to a shop or a shopping mall, we just entered the Temple Area and then continued down the street to Energy Solutions Arena, the temple of basketball players.

When we visited the Temple Area around Christmas, I couldn’t take a photo because I didn’t take my camera with me. At that time, everywhere was smarten up, trees and buildings were illuminated. Although I wanted to come here at the first opportunity and with a camera, but today we had this opportunity.

On the way to the periodic doctor’s check-up for Maya, they dropped us off at the intersection of Temple Street and 700 E near the city center. From this point on, we made the walk we planned.

Just at this point, I would like to share another information about Salt Lake Temple that I think you will find interesting. Since the streets of Salt Lake City are built to cut vertically in the East-West and North-South directions, the street names are lined up with the Temple in the center. For example, 100S is the first street after Temple Street, which is south of Temple, the second is 200S, and the seventh is 700S. Thus you can easily find an address in the city due to all streets are numbered like this for 4 direction or understand where are you.

During our walk, I took many photos of the buildings we found interesting. My goal is to share the pictures with you and come up with an idea about 2.5 square kilometers of Salt Lake City city center. Maybe we catch views of another place on another walk.

I took photos of the exteriors of the buildings we saw on The Temple Street and wrote their names in the album below. Those who are more curious about them can find information from various sources. Naturally, I took more photos of Salt Lake Temple and its surroundings, which are my article topics.

We met with Cem Masha and Maya in front of the Energy Solution Arena, the last point of our walk, and went to Aristo’s Greek Restaurant and Cafe, which was voted the best Greek restaurant in Utah many times.
